The pressures that arise during syllabus week can take a toll on many. It is surprisingly hard to comprehend that plagiarism is wrong, no matter how many times it is read in numerous syllabi.
Having absolutely nothing to do besides show up for class, if even sober enough to do so, is sending students across campus into distress.
Sophomore Payton Naar, is opening up on how his competitive drive and urge to start the semester off right lead him to break the UF Honor Code and cheat, yes cheat, on his syllabus quiz.
All I had to do this week was remember to feed the fish and take my syllabus quiz. I just couldn’t balance it all.”
Naar said.
After taking one look at the first question on the syllabus quiz: “What is your professor’s email?” Naar broke down and went immediately to Quizlet.
Quizlet’s response: “drop out now,” however, got Naar the opposite of a perfect score.
“I’m not proud of what I did, but at the end of the day it came down to taking my quiz honestly or letting my fish live for an extra week. I chose to let Kevin live.”
Reports show that Naar abused the “unlimited attempts” privilege on his syllabus quiz.
“I just couldn’t get the spelling right on the last question: ‘What is your name?’ Thank god I could keep resubmitting answers until I got it right.”
Naar has been enrolled in an ethics course as punishment, where he will learn that the answer to “Sign your initials here” is not something you can search on the Internet.
