The Florida Gators basketball team has been eagerly awaiting their invitation to March Madness the past few weeks, but they have now began wondering if it will even start on time. Past years have seen the team play as early as March 16th, but with only a week left in the month some players are getting antsy.
Like I know they always invite us earlier than this but maybe they had a delay or something. Tournaments get postponed all the time, right?”
Said UF forward Chris Walker.
The team is steady in the belief that the popular college basketball season has experienced some kind of setback and would definitely not start without them. Such an action would come as a shock to the University, which recently enjoyed a successful football season. Many students are confident that there is still hope for the Gators to make it into the tournament. Junior sport management major Jim Truft had the following to say:
Come on, who else would they seed instead of the Gators? UNF eagle-ospreys or whatever the hell they call themselves?”
Reports indicate that not only are students confident that the Gators will play in the tournament, they will take home the national title. Several sorority sisters were spotted in the Reitz Union filling out brackets in the hopes of entering local contests. Every single one of them had the Gators written down as the champions although one had them lose to Kansas in the final round “because Evan Manning is so hot. And the team is amazing with their 1-3-1 zone press.”
However, we learned the truth as we turned to Billy Donovan, Gators basketball head coach. He claims that he’s known from the beginning that there’s actually a tiny chance the team might not get to play in March Madness at all.
I just don’t want to tell them yet, I don’t have the heart.”
Donovan said.
“Seeing them get all excited about practice and maybe getting into the Final Four this year…their thoughts are so pure and naïve, I would hate to take that away from them.”
