Students too broke, tired to participate in Relay 2015

After a successful Dance Marathon 2015 where students raised over $2,000,000 for the kids, it’s become more and more difficult to raise money for the another large University of Florida’s fundraising event — Relay for Life.

Gaby Simmons, a UF telecommunications sophomore and Gamma Alpha Lambda sister, said she wasn’t sure if her sorority even had a team.

Wait, Relay for Life is happening?”

Simmons said. “Who’s going? I don’t know if I have any more family members I can ask to donate after DM.”

When told Relay was, in fact, tonight, Simmons seemed shocked.

“I guess I could pitch in some coins,” Simmons said.

I gave literally all of my extra money to my DM team, and I had just started fundraising for next year’s.”

Simmons wasn’t the only one surprised. After standing for 26.2 hours, DM 2015 dancer Martin Schwartz said he didn’t think he could make it to the all-night event.

“My feet are still sore,” Schwartz.

No way I’m gonna walk for 12 hours outside. There’s not even a catchy hashtag.”
