The University of Florida announced this morning that Stadium Road will from now on be used as a seasonal ski slope due to the recent drop in temperature in the Gainesville area.
The University of Florida Construction and Planning committee informed the student body at a press meeting this morning that because of the extremely cold weather that the area has been experiencing, the University has decided to capitalize on the early morning frosts and unusual snow flurries by making Stadium Road a slope that can be used for snowboarding, skiing and sledding by all students.
“The Stadium Slope is our way of providing students with an innovative and fun new way to get around campus,”
Said Dean of Weather and Natural Disasters, Madison Pleob.
The RTS buses were all sliding and crashing into things anyway because of the frost on the pavement, so the road really wasn’t being used for anything else.”
Students rejoiced at the news, as the cold weather had initially been proving to be inconvenient and disheartening for many who had to don at least 4 layers of clothing to face the wintery winds. Florida residents who had never experienced temperatures below 50 were forced to search for the only closed toe shoes they owned in the depths of their closets.
“Thank god they thought of the Slope thing,”
Said Junior Carly Bert.
“Usually I have to spend at least 2 grand going on my annual ski trip to Whistler every spring break. Now I can get my fill just by going to Biology in the mornings.”
The equipment for the slope will be free to rent and available at Student Rec from 7 a.m to 9 p.m. Pleob and the rest of the Weather committee only ask that you try your best to let everyone who wants to try the slope to have their turn.
This is Florida, Folks. Winter will be over by Thursday.”
