Several car accidents occurred last night when birthday girl, Cindy Tyler, walked through midtown wearing a stop sign for her 21st birthday.
Keeping an eye out for just the right traffic sign to use, the birthday girl said she had been looking forward to her sign night since she first arrived to college and had heard about the tradition.
“With so many traffic signs to choose from, I just couldn’t make up my mind on which one to use,”
Tyler said.
As her big day drew nearer, Tyler finally narrowed it down between a stop sign and a “slow children at play” sign. She decided against the “slow children at play” sign because she was tired of all the misused humor associated with it.
After tediously scoping out all the stop signs around Gainesville, Tyler went with a vibrant red one from the intersection outside Royal Village.
One Royal Village resident says he has “just been wingin’ it” since the stop sign’s disappearance.
“That stop sign was so negative anyway,”
The resident told reporters.
“Sometimes in life you just have to GO.”
After making it to task number 17, Cindy took to wandering the streets again, causing three more car accidents.
“I just didn’t know if I should abide by the walking stop sign or not, crazier things have gone down in Midtown.”
Passerby Alex Goldberg said.
After three UF Alerts were sent about stolen public property and endangerment to drivers in Midtown, Tyler’s special night was cut short by a visit to the Alachua County Jail where she immediately called her friends and demanded they throw her another sign night the next weekend.
“We can pretend like it’s my birthday all over again! But this time my sign better be original, like a martini glass with an olive!”
